Abstract

In the present study, samples were collected from apparently healthy and diseased Tilapia nilotica and Clarias lazera fish (125 samples from each). The samples were collected from intestine, muscles, gills liver and skin. They. were subjected for bacteriological examination to Clostridial microorganisms. Also its sensitivity to antibiotics and the role of Clostridial organisms to induce disease and its histopathological changes.

1- The examined samples from both Tilapia nilotica and Clarias lazera revealed that 45 samples (36%) proved to be harbouring Clostridial micro organisms Moreover, 60 out to 125 examined Clarias lazera samples (48%) were positive for Clostridia.

2- It was found that the age and state of fish played an important role in the infection with Clostridial microorganisms, where the incidence was higher (8%) among adult fish of Tilapia nilotica than young (2.4%) ones. Also this percentage was higher in the diseased than apparently healthy ones in an incidence of 18.4% and 7.2% respectively. On the other hand Clostridial microorganisms were recovered from Clarias lazera samples in adult diseased fish at a higher rate than from young ones (22.4% and
11.2% respectively) but in adult and young apparently healthy ones, the isolation rate was 9.6% and 4.8% respectively.

3- Temperature played a significant role in the isolation of Clostridial microorganisms where their incidence was higher at 37°C (36% from Tilapia nilotica and 48% from Clarias lazera) than at room temperature,
20-22°C (16% from Tilapia nilotica and 25.6% from Clarias lazera).

4- The isolated species of Clostridia at 37°C from Tilapia nilotica were C. bifermentans (34%). C. perfringens (30.1%) C. sordellii (18.9%) C. tertium (5.7%). C. sporogens (7.5%). C. butyricum (1.9%) and C. putrificum (1.9%).

5- Regarding to Clarias lazera fish identification of the isolated Clostridia revealed the presence of C.perfringens (34.3%) C.bifermentans (2.5%) C.
