INVASION OF THE LARYNGEAL FRAMEWORK IMPLEMENTATION IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CANCER LARYNX
Walied Ragab A. Serre;
Abstract
This study was conducted upon forty-four patients suffering from laryngeal carcinoma at different clinical stages. The mean age of the studied patients was 52;6 years. All patients were subjected to surgical management of their tumors in the form either of total or partial laryngectomy.Whole organ sections were prepared and subjected to histopathological examination. Cartilage• invasion of the laryngeal framework was proved in 65.9% of patients who were, therefore, clinically understaged. Glottic lesidns were associated with the highest incidence of cartilage invasion especially the anterior commissure lesions. This study proved that, deep x-ray therapy and laser therapy of the anterior commissure carcinoma should be reconsidered as a modality of treatment of these lesions.
Perineural, bone, muscle, and thyroid gland invasions reflect the aggresiveness of the tumor and may alter the planning of treatment.
