A MEDICOLEGAL STUDY ON TRAUMATIC CASES REFERRED TO FORENSIC MEDICINE AND CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY CENTER

Abstract


The study was carried on one thousand and six patients with trauma. they were 740 males (73.6%) and 266 females 26.4% with a sex ratio of2.7:1
* As regards the marital status 51.6'Yo were single and 47% were

married.

* The maximum number of injury in the sample was encountered in the age group 15 to less than 25 years and 25 to less than 35 years,
22.8% and 22.4% respectively.

*The least number was encountered in the age group >55 years 5.1%

* As regards the level of education, it influenced the incidence of mJur!es, the less the level of education, the more the incidence of mJunes.
* The influence of occupation on injury was studied most of the

injuries were encountered among the manual workers 37.9%.

* The least number was met with in the intellectual group 13.1% .

* The habits of the patients were studied 20.5% of patients smoked tobaco, 0.1% smoked cannabis and 0.3% consumed alcohol.
* A small percent of the patients(5.6%) gave a history of previous

diseases, while 15.6% of the cases gave a history of previous trauma.

* The morning shift followed by the afternoon shift seem to be the most crowded shifts as regards the arrival of the injured patients (44.9%) and (40.%) respectively while the night shift received the least number (I5.1 %).
* A large number of patients 59.3% came from the rural areas, to be followed by the urban areas 40.7%.
