Inhibition of the corrosion of some metals by some - z dyes and s chiff . bases.

Usama Aly Zinhome;

Abstract

The first chapter contains an introduction about the electrochemical nature and kinetics of corrosion. Corrosion inhibitors were defined and systematically classified. Methods of preventing corrosion and correlation between inhibition and stability of organic compounds were discussed. A literature survey on inhibition of copper and iron in acidic and alkaline media were reviewed.
Chapter II deals with the experimental chemical.(weight-loss and thermometric) and electrochemical (potentiostatic) techniques used for measuring the corrosion rate and various electrochemical corrosion parameters of copper and iron metals immersed in (2M) nitric acid and (2M) sodium hydroxide solutions in the absence and in the presence of the investigated azo (mono-and bis-) and Schiff-base compounds.
In the experimental part a complete description of apparatus, working procedure and preparation of solutions were given. Electrode preparation, electrolytic cell and polarization measurements were described. Methods of calculating corrosion current Cicoc,). corrosion potentials (E,0") and degree of surface coverage (8) were also reported.
Chapter III presents the results and discussion of the data obtained. These data are reported in 30 Tables and illustrated m
120 Figures. This chapter is divided into three parts as follows:-

Part (I) Inhibitory effect of some mono- and bis-azodyes on corrosion of copper in nitric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions.
Part (II) Inhibitory effect of some mono- and bis-azodyes on corrosion

of iron in nitric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions.
• Part (III) The corrosion inhibition of copper and iron by the

investigated Schiff bases in nitric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions.
