Effect of curing time and distance on the degree of conversion and nanoleakage of three self-etching adhesives

Abstract


This study investigated degree of conversion and nanoleakage of three self-etching adhesives (Single bond universal, Futurabond DC and G-aenial bond) with different light curing time (as manufacture time and double the manufacture time ) and different light curing distances(1mm, 10mm).
75 specimens were prepared,15 specimens as a control uncured and 60 specimens were prepared for the degree of conversion test using potassium bromide pellet. The degree of conversion was done using FTIR. Specimens were divided into 12 groups (n=5). Three-way ANOVA was used to evaluate the effect of the adhesive system, light curing time, light curing distance and their interaction. One-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD test were used to evaluate the effect of adhesive system used on the degree of conversion. Independent t-test was used to compare between light curing times regardless of distance.
The results of the degree of conversion test showed no statistically difference between interaction of light curing time and distance. The only significant difference was the type of the adhesives themselves.
36 specimens were prepared for nanoleakage evaluation, divided according to the levels of the study(n=3), then specimens were stored in silver nitrate solution for 24hs, followed by developer solution for 8hs then teeth were sectioned into two halves for evaluation using SEM . Single bond universal showed no silver nitrate penetration followed by Futurabond DC showed thin discontinuous line of silver nitrate deposition, the extensive silver nitrate penetration was for G-aenial bond.
From the results of the study, several conclusions were suggested
• 1. The adhesive systems types used in the study had a direct effect on the degree ofconversionannanoleakage.
• 2.Light curing distance and time showed no influence on DC and nanoleakage.
3. There was a correlation between degree of conversion and nanoleakage for the adhesive system used.
