AN INTERFACE FOR ACOUSTICS SIMULATION IN COMPUTER AIDED ARCHITETURAL DESIGN

OSSAMA ALY GAD EL KAREM;

Abstract

The design of an enclosure for speech act i v ities (mosques, lecture h a ll s, theaters, classrooms, . ..etc.) is n ot onl y an architectural matter, whereas, the su ccess of thi s enc l osure in the fu nction which it is bui ld for depends on h ow the a udi ence wil l perceive the sound. Because sound energy behav iour d epen ds mainly on the encl osure form, finishing mate rials, vol u me, and all other archi tectura l considerations, a tool for simu l at ion of sound en ergy i n cl osed spaces has been esta blished. Most of these acoustical simula tion model s are acou st ica ll y oriented, in other words, t hey are d esi g ned to be used by Acoustic i an s w ith their technical term i nology. This thesi s proposes "A me nu tree of an interface for acoustics simulation in computer aided architectural design", to prov i de the A rch i tect w i th a tool that cou ld be u sed in the architectural d esi gn process of speech ha ll s. Th i s proposed menu tree is based on expert system tech n i que. using an acou sti ca l kn ow l edge base, to guid e the A rch itect throug h al l the design process from the acoustical poi nt of view to red uce th e acou sti ca l problems, and ensure t hat the design ed enc l osure is acoustica l ly successful.
