Abstract
Benign cystic bony lesions is a broad term which includes a wide range of benign cystic and cyst like lesions based on plain x rays, which eventually includes all benign lytic bony lesion which include simple bone cyst, aneurysmal bone cyst, fibrous dysplasia, fibrous cortical defect, giant cell tumour and its variants, intra-osseous ganglion, epidermoid cyst of the bone and hydatid cyst.(I)
The most common and the most important of which are the simple bone cyst, aneurysmal bone cyst and giant cell tumour.
Incidence:
Simple (unicameral) bone cyst is a benign tumour of childhood and adolescence, it forms about 3% of all biopsied primary bone tumours, it is more common in males with male: female ratio of2:1.
It usually affects the metaphyseal region of the proximal humerus or femur with 50% affecting the proximal humerus, 18-27% affecting the proximal femur , with the remaining percentage affecting the calcaneus and flat bones(specially in adults and older children), proximal and distal tibia,
fibula , radius ulna and axial skeleton.(2 3

Simple bone cysts can be categorized as active or latent according to their proximity to the epiphysis(4); a cyst that is juxtaepiphyseal is considered active and has the ability to grow while a cyst that is away from the
