APOPTOSIS IN NEOBORN THESIS

Enas Zakaria Selem;

Abstract

Neonatal sepsis, sepsis neonatorum, and neonatal septicemia, all are terms that have been used to describe the systemic response to infection in the newborn infant.

Factor of apoptotic signal (Fas/CD95/Apo-l) antigen is a member of nerve growth factor (NGF) tumour necrosis factor(TNF) family of receptor. It is a membrane associated molecule that mediates apoptotic cell death and plays a role in the induction and maintenance ofT-cell tolerance.

The aim of this study was to show the response of CD95 serum levels to infection in neonatal sepsis compared to normal neonates and
normal prematures.

This work was carried out on 33 neonates 18 of them with sepsis

admitted to neonatal unit of Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital, I 0 normal t

full term neonates and 5 prematures.

All cases were subjected to the following: Full history taking.
Complete physical examination for signs of sepsis.

Routine laboratory investigations to prove sepsis including: CBC, ESR, CRP, blood, urine cultures and CSF culture if needed.
CD95 serum levels by ELIZA techinque.
