HEALING OF MANDIBULAR FRACTURES USING THREE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES OF INTERNAL FIXATION
Hussien Salah Tahoun;
Abstract
Mandibular fractures are commonly encountered m maxillofacial trauma. Angle area is the second most common site of mandibular fracture in which its treatment protocol mostly need s open reduction and internal fu:ation. Fixation of the openly reduced fracture may be achieved by intraosseous wiring or bone plates and/or screws. However, the use of metallic fu:ation systems might encounter some complications as restriction of growth, infection, and bone resorption in addition to device extrusion or palpability in regwns where there IS minimal tissue coverage. Bioresorbable plates, as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) plates, have been evolved to obviate most of these problems. Self reinforcement poly-L-lactic acid (SR-PLLA) resorbable plates are specially designed PLLA to improve its mechanical properties.
