Viral hepatitis is a major public health problem throughout the world especially in developing countries where low socioeconomic
levels prevail.

In the present work we studied the changes in liver functions

and in some plasma proteins (albumin, prealbumin, haptoglolbin, a

antitrypsin and a2 macroglobulin ) in patients with viral hepatitis C at

admission, 3rd and 6 th. month from the date of admission . This was in order to find out if they can have any possible value in assessing the prognosis of patients with hepatitis C.

Eighteen HCV positive patients were studied. They were 10 males and 8 females. Their ages ranged from 10 years up to 56 years with a mean age 35.11 ± 12.7 years.

The studied liver fu•nction tests were ALT, AST, ALP. GGT, Bilirubin and Prothrombin time. They were highly increased at ad­ mission in all cases, normalized in 3 cases at third month and 6 cases
at the sixth

month.
