SURVEY AND BIOLOGICAL STUDIES ON SOME AFRICAN MITES IN SOME DRY HABITATS

Abstract


The investigation was undertaken to survey stored product and house dust mites inhabiting house dust, animal feed, wheat grain, wheat straw, maize, organic manure, sheep manure, broad bean, rice grain, date palm, biscuits, nuts, cheese and onions at El- Conaiessa, Warraq El-Arab, Imbaba and El-Talbeia in Giza Governorate. Moreover, biological studies of one astigmatid species : Tyrophagus putrescentiae on hazel nut food at
20, 25 and 28°C and 70±5% R.H. were studied.




1- Survey:

During the two successive years, June 1996 - June 1998 a complete survey was carried out at different localities allover of Giza.

Data proved the occurrence of 45 species belonging to the suborders Gamasida, Actinedida, Acaridida and Oribatida.

The Gamasid mites were Androlaelaps aegypticus Hafez, El-Badry

& Nasr, Hypoaspis miles Berlese, Ololaelaps bregetovae Shereef & Soliman, Macrocheles muscaedomesticae (Scopoli), Macrocheles matrius (Hull), Kleemannia plumosus (Oudemans), Ameroseius aegypticus El-Badry, Nasr & Hafez, Lasioseius bispinosus Evans, Blattisocius tarsalis (Berlese), B. keegani Fox, Uroobovella krantzi Zaher & Afifi.

The Actinedid mites included Cheyletus malaccensis Oudemans,

• C. aversor Rohdendrof, Acaropsellina sollers Rohdendrof, A. docta (Berlese), Hemicheyletia bakeri (Ehara), Pseudocunaxa simplex (Ewing), Cunaxa capreolus (Berlese), Cunaxoides sp., Spinibdella bifurcata Atyeo, Raphignathus ehari Zaher & . Gomaa, Raphignathus gracilis (Rack), Stigmaeus africanus Soliman & Gomaa, Tydeus califomicus
