ANTI-MULLERIAN HORMONE IN POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

BASEM MOUNIR RIZKALLAH FAM;

Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent condition affecting up to 7% of women of fertile age and is associated with 75% of the causes of anovulatory infertility. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a 140-kda glycoprotein. AMH is a member of the transforming growth factor-b super-family of growth and differentiation factors. In antral follicles, AMH is predominantly secreted into the intrafollicular compartment-giving rise to high follicular fluid concentrations. Serum AMH concentrations reflect the number of pre-antral and small antral follicles in the ovary, yet the implications of this finding in women with PCOS remain debatable.
