Abstract


Osteoporosis is a disease of bone c h a racterized by a reducti on i n bo ne mass that is caused by an i mbalance between bone format io n a nd bone resorpti o n . It i s a very commo n clin ical problem in o ur pop ulation.



There are ma n y risk factors for developing osteoporosis like sm ok in g, hi g h a lcoh ol co nsumpti o n , corticosteroi d therapy ............etc.



As fract ures a re the clinica l com plication of osteoporosis, so the goa l is t o prew nt th e first fracture by det ecting osteoporosis in its ea rl y stages.



In the recen t years, new tests are used to evaluate osteoporosis special l y in its ea rl y stages. One of these tests is the detection of the pro­ peptide domains released during bone formation. Another m arker is the py ridinium cross links of collagen released during bone resorption.
