ADJUSTABLE SILICONE GASTRIC BANDING VERSUS VERTICAL BANDED GASTROPLASTY
Ismail Shehata Mustafa;
Abstract
Morbid obesity is a senous disease associated with a high incidence of medical complications and shortened life span. Obesity has psychological, behavioral and medical consequences. Psychological responses are drived from the subject's and society's reaction to fatness. In terms of behavior, obesity may result in diminished activity because of shortness of breath, joint pain, stasis oedema and muscle fatigue even before overt medical complications supervene.
The medical problems can be senous. With massive obesity there is clearly an increased prevalence of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, pulmonary disorders, as Pickwikian syndrom, gallstones and cancer.
Weight gain requires an intake of energy that is greater than its expenditure. It therefore follows that obesity occurs in response to sustained caloric excess. Food intake need not to be abnormally high during development provided physical activity is limited.
