Abstract


SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
T
he study was conducted at bronchoscopy unit in Abbasia Chest Hospital, it was included 132 patients suspected clinically and radiologically to have lung cancer, admitted to the hospital, provided that there is no contraindication for fibreoptic bronchoscopy, out of them 81 patients were pathologically diagnosed as lung cancer.
All the included patients were subjected to the detailed medical history taking, demographic data, clinical examination, laboratory investigations, Fiberoptic bronchoscopy (F.O.B) was done according to the standard criteria for detailed bronchoscopic study.
All patients were subjected to Fiberoptic bronchoscopy (F.O.B) including: preparations, premedications, procedure itself and Sampling whether Biopsy, Trans Bronchial Needle Aspiration (TBNA) or Bronchial lavage & Histopathological examination of the specimen as regards squamous cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and large cell carcinoma.
This study include 81 patients were pathologically diagnosed as primary lung cancer, they were 73 male patients representing 90.12% and 8 female patients representing 9.88%. Their ages ranging from 19 to 85 with mean age was 61.605 years old (±12.319 SD).
Sixty six patients 84.48 % were smokers and ex smokers while 15 patients were non smokers 18.52%.
