Serum leptin levels in obese.Egyptian children and adolescents

Abstract


This study involved 90 children and adolescents picked up from the
DEMPU.
They are classified into :-
63 males [ 67% ]
27 females ( 23% 1
Their age ranged from 3 to 17 yrs. With a mean of 10.87 yrs. All cases were subjected to anthropometric measurements as weight, height, Mid arm circumference, waist and hip circumferences, triceps and subscapular skin fold thickness, and pubertal assessment .
Laboratory investigations were done Leptin, Insulin, Cortisol,and [ Testosterone for males and E2 for females 1.
They are classified according to BMIinto 67 obese and 23 non obese . There is increase. in serum leptin, cortisol and insulin levels in obese children and adolescents in comparative to their controls
There is higher leptin levels in females than in boys, A strong inverse relationship of serum testosterone with serum leptin levels in boys, decline in Jeptin level in mid puberty in boys but not in girls .
