Immunohistocliemical Study Of Bone Marrow Monocyte-Macrophage Cells In Various Pathological Conditions
GEHAN EZZAT RIZK;
Abstract
Monocytes and their derivatives are present in nearly all tissue sites and organs ofthe human body. These cells play a vital role in a wide range of physiological and pathological processes (Hughes et al,.
1995).
Their function includes phagocytosis elimination of micro organisms, antigen presentation, secretion of enzymes and other biologically active substances, tumouricidal activity (Albina et al.,
1993).
Monocytes and macrophages were originally identified histochemically by the presence of lysosomal enzymes. Such as lysozyme and a-1-anti trypsin (Horny eta!., 1994).
These cells can now identified immunocytochemically by the presence of monocyte, macrophage associated antigens e.g CD11, CD14, CD68 and M 130 antigens. They can also express other antigens such as MHC class II and following activation CD25 antigen
and S 100 protein (Candiago eta!., 2000).
The best macrophage reagent produced so far are those recognizing the CD68 antigen (Durjoy eta!., 1998).
This 11o -kDa antigen belong to a family of acidic, high glycosylated lysosomal glycoproteins that includes. The Iamp-l and lamp-2 molecules (Fulkuda, 1991).
