MOSTAFA ABDELAZIZ AHMED;

Abstract

30 patients with cystosarcoma phyllodes were studied. Phyllodes tumour

•is rare , represents 0.3- 0.9% of all breast tumours. The average age of our patients at presentation was 44.4 years , with a range 19-72 years. The mean tumour size was 7.4cm.,the range was 2.5- 19 em. Both breasts •
. affected more or less equal.

l'reoperative diagnosis was difficult, mammography and FNAC were of little help. Whereas clinical examination , age of the patient , and history of recent rapid increase in size of a stable tumour mass was more helpful .

The local recurrence rate m this study was 42.3%, the local recurrence not affected survival.

One patient only developed distant metastasis and died of her disease, giving a mortality rate 3.8%.

We advise wide local excision of the tumour mass as initial treatment whatever the histology of the tumour. Mastectomy for very large tumours .

Recurrent masses can be treated by wide local exctston or mastectomy , this depends on the size of the recurrent mass , the size of
the remaining breast and desire of the patient to preserve the breast ..
