PROSPECTIVE ANQ RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF THE MEDICOLEGA' ASPECTS OF OTQLOGIC TRAUMA

Abstract
Otologic mJunes are considered of medicolegal importance their outcome may lead to disability and/ or infinnity.
Ears are the mam affected area in personal violence and accidents caused by beating, stabbing, occupational injuries and road traffic accident.
The ann of this study is to evaluate the medicolegal aspects of otologic trauma with especial emphasis on type of trauma management and sequalae.
The study included retrespective study which was conducted on record of 180 patients and prospective study which was conducted on 24 7 patients who were sustaining otologic trauma.
The patient m the prespective study were subjected to clinical evaluation. Audiometry, computerized tomography, and electrodiagnostic tests of facial nerve were performed when they were indicated.
The study showed that the majority of the victims were young males as they were more exposed to violence than female and tend to have more aggressive behavior.
External ear was damaged by a variety of physical agents, the most important were blunt, sharp mechanical and thermal trauma.
The most common cause of blunt trauma was road traffic accident
