Effect Of Hemodialysis on Conventional and Tissue Doppler Parameters of Right Ventricular Function

Hassan Salah Hassan Al-Mekawy;

Abstract

During hemodialysis (HD), patients are subjected to acute intravascular volume depletion due to ultrafiltration; therefore, these patients constitute an interesting group for the study of acute preload reduction impact on echocardiographic parameters. Intradialytic reduction in BP and ultrafiltration volume both independently determined the propensity to suffer HD-induced cardiac injury.(13)
The right ventricle has long been neglected, although RV disease is strongly associated with clinical outcomes in many conditions. There are, limited data regarding the normal dimensions of the right ventricle because of its complex shape and paucity of ultrasound studies providing normal reference values of right heart size and function. As a result, many physicians rely on visual estimation to assess RV size and function.(8)
The aim of our study was to examine the effect of HD-mediated acute intravascular volume reduction on homogeneous group of chronic uremic patients with no overt heart disease and normal systolic LV and undergoing the same HD protocol.
