Low• shrinkage silorane based and conventional •methacrylate based resin composite systems

Maha Abd El Salam El Baz;

Abstract

The aim of the current study was to compare a low shrinkage silorane based resin composite (Filtek Silorane) with a conventional methacrylate based resin composite (Filtek Z250) cured with two different curing lamps (LED and Halogen curing lamps), regarding their linear polymerization shrinkage, their microshear bond strength and gap distance and dentine/restoration interface examination.

The study involved two parts: an in vitro part (for polymerization shrinkage and microshear bond strength measurements) and an in vivo part (for gap distance evaluation). For polymerization shrinkage measurement a total of forty resin composite specimens {20 specimens for each system) were investigated using a Mechanical Comparator - dilatometer. Each group were further subdivided equally into two sub groups {10 specimens each) and cured with the two different light curing lamps used.
