Facial nerve injury after parotidectomy

Abstract
Pennanent facial nerve dysftmction is a potential complication of every parotid surgery. TIIis sh1dy included twenty patients admitted to the head and neck depariment in Alexandria University Hospital, with benign parotid lesions to evaluate facial nerve ftmctions after parotidectomy for benign lesions and the pattern of their recove1y whenever affected.
All the patients were subjected to history taking, clinical exarnination, routine laboratory investigations, fine needle aspiration cytology, ultrasound imaging of the parotid gland, X-ray mandible, preoperative facial nerve exarnination and conduction test.
