PETROPHYSICAL FACIES ANALYSIS OF THE MIOCENE CLASSTICE EXPOSED IN HADAHID AREA , SINAI , EGYPT
KHALID SAMY GHARIB;
Abstract
The study area lies in the westem part of central Sinai between latitudes 28° 35 '- 28° 45' N and longitudes 33° 20' -
33° 25' E. The studied section measures a thickness of 338.8 m. and forty samples are collected representing different lithic changes. This sequence belongs to Rudeis Formation (Lower Miocene). in the area, Rudeis Formation overlies conformably the Nukhul Formation and underlies unconformably the Quaternary gravels and sands. It is composed mainly of sandstones with some shale intercalations and few sandy limestones at the base.
The present study deals with petrological and petrophysical studies on Lower Miocene sandstones -posed at Gabal Hadahid, west central Sinai.
The selected samples were subjected to different techniques of petrological and petrophysical analyses. The petrological analysis include grain size analysis (mean size, sorting, skewness and kurtosis). While, the petrophysical measurements were bulk and grain density, porosity, permeability, electrical properties, water saturation, tortuosity and ultra-sonic velocity.
The analyses and measurements carried out on these samples indicate that the Lower fiocene section at Gabal Hadahid can be divided into four groups, they are sandy limestone at the base, calcareous sandstone G.l, calcareous sandstone G. 2, calcareous sandstone G. 3 at the top. In tum, this section is considered to be a good reservoir due to their high values of effective porosity and penneability.
