THE EFFICACY OF CLONIDINE ADMINISTRATION ON POST-OPERATIVE SHIVERING FOLLOWING HALOTHANE, SEVOFLURANE AND CONTINUOUS INTRAVENOUS PROPOFOL ANAESTHESIA

Abstract
This study was conducted in Assiut University Hospital and included 60 ASA class I and II patients undergoing elective cholecystectomy, paraumbilical hernia or incisional hernia repair. The study protocol was approved by the local ethical comittee and an informed consent was obtained from each patient before being included in the study.
Patients were randomly allocated into three groups (20 patients each) according to the type of the anaesthetic agent used for maintenance of anaesthesia: The first group was assigned to recieve halothane, the second group recieved sevoflurane and the third group was given total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) with propofol.
