The effects of oophorectomy in the premenopausal . period on the dehydroepiandrosterone & dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate levels

Amany Mahmoud Saleh;

Abstract

Menopause in women is associated with many physical and honnonal changes as reduced protein synthesis, decreased bone mass, increased tendency to arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis and increased serum cholesterol level. Also following the menopause, there are changes in androgen oestrogen, progesterone and gonadotrophin secretion. This occurs because of cessation of ovarian follicular activity.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfate ester (DHEA-S) often called weak androgens, have recently attracted the attention of the public due to their alleged beneficial effects on health and aging.
