Evit Ezzat Eid Iskandar;

Abstract

The prevalence of Diabetic retinopathy in Egypt among adult diabetic patients in 2010 was around 20.5%. 90 percent of all cases of blindness from diabetes can be prevented. It is the most common cause of preventable blindness among working age adults.
Copeptin, a novel biomarker (a surrogate to arginine vasopressin) was found to increase with diabetic retionopathy.

Our study aimed to measure the level of serum copeptin in patients with different degrees of diabetic retinopathy.
The study was conducted on 96 individuals in the diabetes and ophthalmology outpatient clinics between February and August 2017 after an informed oral consent. The groups were as follows:
Group I included 24 diabetic patients with no evidence of diabetic retinopathy.
Group II included 24 patients with non proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
