Incidence and Predictors of Acute Renal Impairment after Off Pump versus On Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
Waleed Khaled Ali Salem;
Abstract
The growing burden of coronary artery disease is evident. Every effort is done in modern medicine to prevent, diagnose, evaluate and adequately treat this serious life threatening condition. CABG operation represents a standard of care in patients with extensive CAD as compared PCI and medical treatment alone. CABG with the use of CPB is recognized as the “gold standard” technique for surgical myocardial revascularization. A further effort in minimizing the occurrence of some complications related to conventional CABG has led to the development of OPCAB technique.
AKI represent one of the frequent and serious complications that may occur after CABG surgery this may lead to further substantial morbidity and mortality. So, in this study, our goal is to determine the incidence and predictors of acute kidney impairment with both on pump and off pump CABG and if there is a significant difference between the 2 groups on kidney function within 1st 48 hours post-operatively based on AKIN criteria or not.
This study was prospective cohort, observational study, conducted in post open heart ICU at Ain Shams university hospitals, Cairo university hospitals, National Heart Institute during the period between June 2017 and February 2018. We enrolled 1st 74 consecutive adult patients scheduled for isolated CABG surgery (with a median sternotomy) with or without cardiopulmonary bypass pump. The patients are allocated in 2 groups where 37 patients in each group (group A – On pump – ONCAB- conventional surgery) and (group B – Off pump –
