Comparison Between Intrathecal Narcotics And Epidural Local Anaesthetics For Obstetric Analgesia

Abstract


This study has been carried out in Sohag University
Hospital, at Obstetrics and Gynecology Department.

Eighty parturients were (ASA grade I & II), at or more than 35 gestational weeks, in the active phase oflabor.

Patients were divided into two equal groups:

Group I (Intrathecal group):

0.25 mg morphine sulphate plus fentanyl25 ug and 6 mg of l% lidocaine were injected intrathecally.

Group II (Epidural group):

8 ml of 0.25% bupivacaine was injected into the epidural catheter as induction dose followed by 2 ml of 0.125% every
0 minutes as maintenance dose.

The followi.ng data were measured and recorded for each parturients:

1- Arterial blood pressure before injection and 15, 60 and
120 min. after injection.

2- Respiratory rate.

3- Time taken to achieve adequate analgesia after injection.

4- Electronic fetal monitoring.

5- Progress of labor.

7- Type of delivery.
