DISTRACTION HISTIOGENESIS

Abstract


Distraction histiogenesis refers to the use of distraction force to stimulate the formation of skin, muscles, nerves, vascular structures connective tissue, and bone.
When bone is involved, the process is termed distraction osteogenesis.
Ilizarov 1950 described his device that can be used to treat many problems.
In 1963 Wagner technique was introduced which contains three operations include:
1) A diaphyseal osteotomy and application of external fixator.
2) Bone grafting and plating.

3) Removal of the plate.




In 1987' De Bastiani et al., published the result of limb lengthening with the use of Menolateral external fixator.
