Hypoglycemic effect and antioxidant of some Egyptian medicinal plant extracts

Abstract


The aim of the present study is the isolation and identification the major constituents of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Beta vulgaris rubra leaves. In addition, to investigate the antioxidant, antidibetic and its complications activities of methanol (80%) extract in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.
The study is innovative due to discover natural drugs from traditional medicinal plants for treatment of diabetes and its complications in addition to several advantages such as often fewer side effects, better patient tolerance, relatively less expensive and acceptance due to a long history of use.
The outputs of the study will contribute significantly to pharmaceutical and drug industry through introducing new candidates from traditional medicinal plants for treatment diabetes and its complications available and cheap in Egypt.
Results obtained from the study will assist in the establishment of a traditional medicine's database designed to improve knowledge on the use, activity and availability of traditional medicinal plants.

1. Phytochemical assay:
1.1. Extraction of plant materials:
Air-dried, powdered of H. rosa-sinensis and B. vulgaris rubra leaves were extracted by methanol (80%). The residue of methanolic extract was suspended in water with assistance of ultrasonic water bath
