Performance Analysis of an ATM Switch
Mohamed Ali Ahmed;
Abstract
In this thesis we study the performance of a crossbar packet switch that works in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) environment. The study proposed three models. Each one of these models handle two classes of different priorities.
The three models are analyzed using deterministic and geometric distributions
of the service times. The geometric distributions are assumed to have either the same service rate or different service rates. In our analysis, we use the expectation of random variable (RV) approach. We apply the first model to a buffered output crossbar switch.
From the study we conclude that the ATM environment satisfies the best per
formance for the proposed switch.
