DIAGNOSTIC VALUE OF NEOPTERIN IN LIVER DISEASES OF INFANCY AND CHILDHOOD

Abstract
Neopterin is a compound act as a mediator in the biosynthesis of tetrahydrobiopterin which represent an essential cofactor of the mono-oxygenases involved in the neurotransmitter synthesis. Neopterin is produced by human monocytes and macrophages following induction by supernatant from activated T-lymphocytes or by other lymphokines and activated agents.
This study was carried out on 56 children. They were classified as follows:
Group/a:
Comprised of 10 cases with acute viral hepatitis post virus (A).
Grouplh:
Consisted of 10 cases with acute viral hepatitis post virus (A) after treatment (The same cases of group Ia). Group//:
Consisted of 16 cases of chronic active hepatitis post virus (B).
