RECYCLING OF INDUSTRIAL SOLID WASTE MATERIALS FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES
Samy Said Zaher;
Abstract
Increasing technology results in an increase of environmental problems due to the huge accumulation of waste materials. Scientists over the world are trying to solve these technology problems, and many researchers come out to explain how to use the waste materials in a safe way. Some waste materials have been considered as valid materials to use for many applications for the civil engineering as soil improvement and road construction works.
In Egypt, cement industry discard about 3 million tons per year of CKD, this huge quantity of waste materials causing several adverse impacts on environment and inhabitants living in surrounding areas, and destroying the agriculture lands near by these factories.
Soft clay and expansive soils are one of the problematic soils in Egypt. They costs the government a lot of effort and money to repair the damages caused by their swelling properties, especially in canal lining, roadways, building foundations, road construction, bridges, tunnels, sewer lines and other engineering projects.
