“The Relationship between Human Security and Migration” (Comparative Study)

Noha Yahya Zakaria;

Abstract

Human security has been receiving more attention from the key global development institutions, since that it aims at recognizing that the security of states is essential, but not sufficient, to fully ensure individual safety. For this, Human security aims at treating the safety of people as integral to achieving and maintaining international peace, stability, and development.

Moreover, human security can be enhanced through comprehensive coherent migration management strategy which is critical in increasing benefits for societies and the migrants themselves. Thus, a bold vision is needed to realize these gains.

By shedding light on Egypt, it was found that Egypt faces human insecurity –especially in economic security dimension and environmental security dimension- concerning migrants sector (emigrants and immigrants), so this thesis studied the Thai’s experience in applying human security -focusing on economic and environmental securities- as causes and impacts of migration (emigration and immigration), in order to determine how could Egypt benefit from this experience.

In order to achieve this, the thesis is divided into 3 parts, part one: Human security and Migration Relationship, part two: Thailand’s Human Security and Migration, part three: Egypt’s Human Insecurity and Migration.

The thesis recommended that there are some of the procedures performed by Thailand in using economic and environmental securities as causes and impacts of migration fit the nature of the Egyptian situation.
