DEVELOPING JOB DESCRIPTION FOR INFECTION CONTROL NURSE

Abstract


To keep up to date with the current health care changes, nursing leaders have been increasingly concerned with the hospital infection. Job description is a must to ensure role clarification and to avoid ambiguity with the ultimate goal of continuous improving quality of care.

Accordingly the job description of the infection control nurse is imperative for the nurses themselves and also for the whole system. Therefore, the aim of this study was to analyze the job of the infection control nurse; and develop job description for the infection control nurse.

To achieve the foregoing aims, it is crucial to answer the following questions:-

1- What are elements of job description as perceived by physicians and nursing supervisors?

2- What are duties and responsibilities of the infection control nurse as actually performed?

3- To what extent the developed format was valid?

This study was conducted at Menoufiya and Cairo governorate. Subjects of study consisted of two groups.
First group: Sample of 192 nurses were included in the study. 100 nursing supervisors working in Shebin El Kom Teaching Hospital, 30 nurses working as infection control nurses in different hospitals in Cairo govenorate; 32 nursing faculty members and 30 nursing leaders.

Second group: I 00 physicians working in Shebin El Kom Teaching Hospital
