PREDICTION AND REPRESENTATION OF GRAVITY FIELD IN EGYPT

Abstract

The gravity field of the earth for any country is very important to be modeled and represented, since it has many geodetic and non­ geodetic applications. Uptill now, there •is no reliable representation of the earth's gravity field in Egypt, due to the fact that most of the gravity measurements in Egypt are concentrated over small areas in the Delta and around Nile valley. The importance of a well represented gravity field for Egypt comes from the fact that this gravity field has many important applications like the determination of the geoid which is used as a height datum, studying of the earth's crustal movements, application of gravity corrections to the observed height differences in precise leveling routes, oil and minerals explorations.
