COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN POSTERIOR LUMBAR INTERBODY FUSION AND POSTERO-LATERAL FUSION IN SPINAL FIXATION IN CASES OF SPONDYLOLISTHESIS.
TAMER IBRAHIM MOHAMED ORIEF;
Abstract
This work evaluated the methods used in posterior spinal fusion weather Posterior Lumbar lnterbody Fusion (PLIF) or Postero-lateral Fusion in cases of spondylolisthesis managed by spinal fixation. The efficacy was assessed according to the post-operative clinical and radiological outcomes for four months.
Twenty patients were included in this study. All cases were subjected to complete clinical assessment, laboratory investigations and radiological assessment. Failure of conservative treatment and/or presence of neurological deficit were the indications of surgery.
All the studied cases were of single level, mobile, first and second degree spondylolisthesis. Ten cases were selected to perform postero-lateral fusion and another ten cases were selected to perform PLIF. Internal fixation was done for all the studied cases of both groups.
