Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis:Diagnostic Value Of C-Reactive Protein And Tumour Neerosis Factor-Alpha And Their Blood-Ascitic Gradients

Abstract


This study was performed on 45 patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites. The patients were divided into 2 groups:
Group/:
Included 25 patients (55.56%) with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis

(SBP). Among the patients of this group there were:
• Classical SBP in 7 patients (28%)[gram negative stains m

5 cultures, and gram positive stains in 2 cultures].

• Culture negative neutrocy ic ascites (CNNA) in 18 patients (72% ).
Group//:

Included 20 patients (44.44%) with sterile (non infected) ascites.
All the study subjects were subjected to the following:

* Careful history taking .
* Muticulous clinical examination.

* Laboratory investigations :- it Included the following analyses:-

1-Complete blood picture , erythrocyte sedimentation rate, Liver function tests, prothrombin time , prothrombin concentration, renal function tests , hepatitis B surface antigen
,hepatitis C virus antibodies and serum lactic dehydrogenase.
2- Assessment of serum for levels ofCRP and TNF-a.
