EFFECT OF LEUCOFILTRATION ON PREVENTION OF TRANSFUSION- ACQUIRED CYTOMEGALOVIRUS INFECTION
Azza Sayed Hassanien;
Abstract
The aim of the present work was to study the preventive measures to reduce transfusion acquired CMV infection (TA-CMV). This study was conducted on 50 blood bags,leucofltration& investigations were performed such as routine tests on blood bags & specific tests for CMV detection.The prevalence of AntiCMV-IgM
&IgG by Latex agglutination was 94% & I 00% for IgG ELISA,4% for IgM, in
addition 18% for CMV-DNA by PCR. Further 14 blood units were used in a comparative study using 2 types of filter in order to study the effect of storage
&performance on the efficiency of the filter. Leucofiltration was proved to be very efficient in prevention ofTA-CMV as all the positive cases for CMV-DNA by PCR before filtration became negative after filtration.
