Effect of Lidocaine-Soaked Nasal Packing on Pain Relief After Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Shimaa Ramadan Ibraheem;

Abstract

Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is considered to be the most accepted surgical technique used to treat medically unresponsive chronic sinusitis and other nasal sinuses serious conditions.
After successful FESS most surgeons prefer to use nasal packs for hemostais, lateralization of middle turbinate and prevention of adhesion formation. Although different types and materials of nasal packs are available, they are considered the most uncomfortable even painful part after surgery.
The current study assesses the effect of lidocaine application on merocel nasal packs after FESS to find out if there is correlation between its application and its effect on pain after surgery.
Patients were evaluated carefully after operation by following up vital signs as heart rate, rhythm and blood pressure to existence of any side effects of lidocaine
