ABSTRACT
This paper presents the results from nonlinear finite element analysis
conducted by ABAQUS/CAE program to investigate the behavior of
perforated steel plate shear walls (PSPSWs). Finite element monotonic
pushover analyses were conducted on complete perforated SPSW models
with various geometrical parameters. A brief introduction and literature
review of the previous work in the field of steel plate shear wall and
perforated steel plate shear wall are presented.
For verification, Three FE models are conducted, two single-story
perforated and solid models and one three-story solid model, to verify the
experimental work results of the previous researchers and to understand
the behavior of perforated steel plate shear wall (PSPSW). Good
agreement in overall behavior between the test results and the analytical
models results was observed.
For parametric studies on single story, different parameters such as
specimen’s height, infill plate thickness, columns stiffness, perforations
diameter, angle of perforations, reduced beam section diameter, material
grade of the infill plate, beams stiffness and perforations layout are
considered. This research aims to study the effect of each parameter on
the behavior of perforated steel plate shear walls to investigate which
factor should be considered in the analytical calculations to predict well
the strength of perforated steel plate shear wall (PSPSW). A modification
to previous finding for the strength of PSPSW is proposed in relation with
solid SPSW.
