Abstract
The problem of failing total hip prosthesis is growing problem world wide and locally in Egypt, failure can occur through several mechanism failure of materials, designs or surgical techniques is to name few among different modes offailure.
We conducted a prospective study in the period between January 1998 and June 2000 involving 28 cases all of them had aseptic loosening of their hip prostheses based on their clinical, radiological and intraoperative culture data.
The 28 cases included acetabular bone stock deficiency which was classified according to Paprosky classification into 23 cases of Paprosky type 3A and 5 cases of Paprosky type 3B, 15 case among the 28 case had concomitant femoral bone stock deficiency which was classified according to AAOS classification into 4 cases of type II defect, 10 cases of type III defect and 1 case oftype VI.
