Abstract

Description: Aimed at real estate industry professionals, developers, and investors, this thesis fully explains the best practices and methods for retrofitting an existing building to be sustainable, increasing the efficiency of resource use while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment. The research also focuses on mixed use buildings, their progress, needs and most of the aspects that should be taken in consideration during the process of retrofitting and displays number of examples of buildings that have been retrofitted and reused, these examples vary in the scale of work that have been done whether applying a deep or conventional energy retrofit. The research studies the strategies and techniques, used to achieve high performance of sustainability, and reach a comprehensive design methodology for retrofitted projects for designers to follow in order to reach a sustainable performance.
