Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by the progressi\c development of air !low limitation that is not fully reversible. COPD is caused by an abnormal inllammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles or gases in pnnicular cigarette smoking. COPD constitutes a major public health burden worldwide the World Health Organization estimates COPD to be the world•s tifih common disease and fourth lending cause of death (Shnvelle. Paculdo. Kush. Mannino and Strauss. 2009). This chapter presents an overview on the study recommendations with implications for nursing practice. education and research.
