EFFECT OF JUNK FOOD ON PREGNANCY

Abstract


SUMMARY
Junk food become a necessity or an everyday occurrence that health risks and health related complications may occur we have shown previously that a maternal junk food diet during pregnancy and played a role in predisposing offspring to obesity. This study supported the idea that there were many different risk factors that can lead to someone being overweight and developing related health problems. Pregnancy could be a difficult time for many mothers, but it is important that they were aware that what they eat may affect their off spring (Barker, 2006).
A descriptive study was done; the aim of the study was to assess the effect of junk food on pregnancy. This aim was achieved through answering the following research hypnosis:
Pregnant women who take junk food regular will suffer from many complications during pregnancy.
This study was conduct at antenatal outpatient clinic At Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital 5 % from total admission pregnant women attend at antenatal outpatient clinic At Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital (207 case out of 4201 primigravida pregnant women attend in year 2010) . The subjects of the present study included 207 pregnant women at the previously mentioned settings, and selected under the following inclusion criteria: Primigravida in 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester and Free from any problems or medical complications.
Three types of tools were used for data collection and conduction of the study. These consisted of pregnant woman's structured interviewing Arabic questionnaire, Junk food style assessment tool, Pregnancy follow up card. There used for achieving the aim of this study. It was designed by the researcher after reviewing of related literature. The tool which included open and close-ended questions and was divided into three parts:
It covered the general characteristics of the sample as personal identification and demographic data, e.g., age of woman, place of residence, and occupation if present concerned with reproductive history and questions about present pregnancy.
Designated to assess pregnant woman’s knowledge regards junk food, types, its effect and causes for using it.
Junk food style assessment tool: It was designed by the researchers after reviewing of related literature. The tool which included junk food style of pregnant woman (type –number –time)
Pregnancy follows up sheet: It was designed by the researchers after the tool will included follow up of pregnant woman body weight, Hgb, general pregnancy physical fitness, lab investigations, medical follow up record and any current problems.
