BIOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL STUDIES ON.MOSQUITOES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE CULEX PIPIENS

Abstract

Different stages of Culex pipiens L. mosquito were collected from small ponds in Dandara ( Qena ) .

A standard colony of this mosquito has been maintained in the laboratory conditions for nearly three years, this colony used in the present work.

The study classified into two principal fractions :-

1- Biological studies :-

The study of the biological life cycle of Culex pipiens L. in the laboratory conditions, which include detailed the different stages of mosquito in the life cycle , and the time between each stage and other, from the egg to the egg again .This is very important which might lead to a proper understanding of the life of this species and might also be of practical value as to when and where effective control measures against it may be launched

II- Insecticidal studies :-

There are six candidates medical plants to evaluate their insecticidal effect on third instar larvae of Culex pipiens L. , the efficiency of each plant extract ( distilled water) was evaluated on the base of the mean of mortality of larvae during the period of experiments .

1- Estimation of Lc5o :-

The median lethal concentration is read from the regression lines , the values of Lc 50 was different from plant extract to other, in case ofDemsisa was 590 ppm, Termes 530 ppm , Shih Baladi 520 ppm , kemmoun was 310 ppm , Babounag was 260 ppm and black Pepper was 10 ppm .
