Abstract

Today, modem researches have shown that the a 'tion of medicinal plants is due to a relatively small number of constituents called the active principles produced by the plant. The active J1rinciples of a goodly

number of drugs are still unknown for the chemical constituents have not yet been isolated and characterised, or we know only some part of the activity of the natural durg. The present work deals with phytochemical studies for one important plant under the title of" Terpenoid Constituents of Ferula vesceritensis"

The fresh plant materials were collected, dried powdered and

. extracted with different solvents at room temperature. The extracts was fractionated by column chromatography (CC) on flash silica gel. Further separation has been done by column chromatography on Sephadex LH- 20, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); using different eluting solvents, e.g. n-hexane, methylene chloride, methanol and diethyl ether. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by using FAB-MS, CI-MS, HR-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H COSY, 1H-13C COSY, HMBC and

NOESY.
