EFFECT OF CLIMATIC FACTORS AND MICRONUTRIENTS FERTILIZATION ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND YIELD OF GERANIUM UNDER AFRICAN ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Abstract

This investigation aims to stud"y'

the effect of climatic factors and

micronutrients ( iron, manganese and copper ) fertilization on the chemical composition and yield of geranium. In this study, changes in sowing dates and planting distances as microclimatic modifiers for these plants have been used.

This investigation was carried out at Demo location El - Fayoum, Egypt during two successive seasons (1995 - 1996 ) and ( 1996 - 1997 ).

The design of the experiment was split-split plot, the main plot was

,planting dates (Ig. November, 15th. November and I st. December), sub plot was plant spacing ( 20 and 40 em. between plants ) and sub - sub plots was micronutrient treatments (CuS04 .5H20 , Mn - EDTA, and Fe - EDTA ) as a foliar spray applied twice, for each season.

The fertilizers used were anhydrous ammonia ( 82 % N ) at the rate of 70 kg N I fed., injected directly into the moderately moisted soil before planting, calcium super phosphate ( 15.5% P205) at the rate of 31 kg P205 I fed., added before sowing, and potassium sulphate ( 48 % K20 ) at the rate of 48 kg K20 I fed., applied one month after planting.
