SLEEP APNEA SYNDROME IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PATIEN TS

Abstract

Sleep disorders are common complains in CRF patients on regular haemodialysis, these disorders may take the form of abnormal sleep pattern, increased requirements of medications and overt sleep apnea.

This study included 30 patients with CRF on regular haemdialysis twice per week selected randomly from HD units of Specialized Hospital of Ain Shams University and Nasser Institute, they included 15 males and 15 females.

All patients were subjected to full history taking especially that suggestive of sleep apnea. Clinical examination including ENT evaluation, laboratory investigations including serum creatinine, BUN and blood hemoglobin, ECG, chest x-ray, over night polysomnography in Chest and Psychiatry. Departments in Ain Shams University Hospitals. Arterial blood gases analysis was done on next morning to polysomnographic study. The polysommogaphic study was done over the night following haemodialysis session.
