ICAM-1 IN VIRAL UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTION

Abstract
This work aimed to find a relation between the level of ICAM-1 and upper respiratory tract infections which proceed to complications as a preliminary step for the use of soluble ICAM-1 as a protective treatment for common colds whose causative viruses are .rapidly changing.
This study was carried out on 30 patients complaining of upper respiratory tract infections and/or its complications e.g. otitis media. The patients were subjected to bacteriologi
cal investigations wh,ich they were classified as upper respira- tory tract infection due to bacterial agent (group I) and upper
respiratory tract •infection due to a non bacterial agent,J.e. vi
ral, fungal (group II).
